Mysouff II

French novelist Alexandre Dumas (1802-1870) owned a cat named Mysouff II. He also owned a collection of exotic birds. One day his beloved cat decided to eat the entire collection. The following Sunday the unfortunate animal was given a trail before Dumas's guests. One guest said in defence of the hungry feline that," the aviary door had been opened by one of Dumas's pet monkeys".

The sentence passed upon poor Mysouff II was that he should spend five years imprisoned with the monkeys in their cage. But fortunately for Mysouff II, Dumas was soon to find himself in a financial predicament. And as a result had to sell the monkeys, thus the cat regained his freedom once more.
