Mountain Moggy

In August 1950, a four-month old kitten watched as mountaineers began their assent of the Matterhorn in the Alps. When the party, led by Edmund Biner reached a hut at 12,556 feet they were amazed to see the kitten had also managed the climb. It kept up with the climbers and eventually reached the Swiss summit then finally the Italian summit. It almost fell several times, but always managed to cling on, and was always in sight of the mountaineers.

After its staggering 14,000 feet climb, the kitten owned by Josephine Aufdenblatten of Geneva was given a ride back down the mountain in a rucksack of one of the mountain guides.
